MEET... CARLA RHODES!
Ventriloquist and reluctant assistant to Cecil Sinclaire.
DESCRIBE WHAT YOU DO:
Perform with cantankerous vaudeville legend Cecil Sinclaire. I endure his abuse and fantasize about making it on my own.
EARLIEST SLIPPER ROOM MEMORY:
Running amok in the Lower East Side as a 20 something and seeing many grand shows at the old Slipper Room and wondering, "How can I be part of this family?!" It's an honor to now be part of the family, though Cecil has risked our membership many times.
WHO'S BEEN THE MAJOR INFLUENCE IN YOUR WORK?:
Shari Lewis & The Marx Brothers.
CAREER HIGHLIGHT SO FAR:
Living so many dreams through being a performer. Meeting most of my heroes, making life long friends, crossing paths with so many brilliant people... Best moment was making the pilot episode for Cecil's upcoming series, "The Plight Of Cecil".
MEMORABLE SLIPPER ROOM MOMENT:
Once, when Mel Frye had enough of Cecil, he decided to throw a drink at Cecil. It landed on me instead. Cecil laughed. And laughed. And laughed. Also, when Cecil revealed Mel "is his son" and "WC Fields is the Mother".
WHERE CAN WE FIND YOU AFTER THE GIG?:
Bailing Cecil Sinclaire out of jail.
WHAT'S NEXT FOR YOU?:
Making the rest of Cecil's web series, "The Plight Of Cecil!" It's my opus!!!
